Bongani Manavhela Makes Switch From Soccer to Singing
Former Polokwane City goalkeeper, Bongani Manavhela, is hanging up his football boots and gloves in exchange for a microphone.
Manavhela – who was signed to Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Mbabane Highlanders – last played in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) from 2018-19 as a goalkeeper for Polokwane City.
However, the 30-year-old’s goal to return to the PSL has proven unsuccessful. As such, he’s calling time on his soccer career and is now embarking on one in gospel music.
“I love football, but sometimes when things are not happening, you have to take another direction which will put food on the table,” he told a local soccer outlet on Saturday, 9 September.
“I’m lucky because God gave me two talents: one for playing football and the other for singing. I am Christian, and I sing all the time at church. It is time I focus on my music career for now.”
However, Manavhela says he is open to a return to the soccer pitch: “Maybe I will be back in football after this event, but it depends on how people respond to my music career.”
